Dental services - Crowns

A crown or “cap” is a dental restoration that covers a tooth, which is severely decayed or fractured. A crown restores a tooth to its original shape, strengthens the tooth and improves its cosmetic appearance. Crowns are recommended on teeth after root canal therapy, as these teeth will tend to become brittle and are more prone to fracture.

Crowns can be made out of different materials. The trend over the last few years has been towards all-porcelain crowns. Crowns can also be made out of different types of metal (gold, semi-precious and non-precious metals) and a combination of porcelain and metal. Dentists will prescribe different materials based on the specific dental needs and requirements of the patient.
